If you’re curious about an upcoming roofing project — whether it be an installation, repairs, or a replacement — we have all of the answers you’ll need. We’ve cataloged answers to a few of our most frequently asked questions here, and you can always reach out to us if you have additional questions!
Depending on the extent of damage to your roof, it may be best to repair or replace your roof. For instance, if you have an older roof or a roof with significant damage, it may be more beneficial to replace it entirely. On the other hand, if you only need to have a few repairs performed across the surface of your roof to ensure that it is whole again. If you’re curious about the best option for your specific roof and its condition, you can reach out to us for advice. We can inspect your roof and let you know about the most valuable choice for your situation.
Keep an eye out for the following signs that your roof requires a repair or replacement:
Missing shingles, shakes, etc.: If your roof is missing shingles, shakes, or any other component then you’ll need to replace those components to retain complete coverage against precipitation.
Dings, dents, and other damage: If your roof has endured hail or perhaps a branch has fallen on it, then your roof may be damaged to the point that it requires repairs. We can remove and replace any damaged roof materials.
Leaks: If you notice any leaks from your roof into your home, then you have a serious issue that should be attended to immediately. Leaks can happen for a variety of reasons, and they can more across rafters once they’ve made their way into the room — which may make it difficult to determine where the source of the leak started. Again, you can count on us to inspect your roof to determine the source of the problem if you’ve noticed any leaks.
Poor Drainage: Your roof should be able to shed water as quickly as it falls from the sky. However, if you have poor gutters, a bad roof design, clogged downspouts, or ice dams that have formed during winter, then your roof might not shed water like it should. And, that resting water can seep through the underlayment of the roof which can cause all sorts of problems.
Discoloration: If your roof is discolored, you may have mold growing on the surface. Mold can be cleaned off with a low-pressure setting on a power washer, or with a chemical treatment. Just be sure that treating your roof won’t void any warranty before you get started. In addition, discoloration can be caused by age, since your roof will slowly lose its lustre to UV-exposure and other wear and tear. If you have a roof that is over a decade old, it may be approaching the end of its life — depending on the roofing material.
Roof replacements vary depending on the size of your roof and the type of material being installed. If you’d like to get a quote for your upcoming project, don’t hesitate to reach out to us to get a quote.
While you may be able to tackle a roofing project on your own, it can prove dangerous, time-consuming, and it may void any warranty that you could otherwise have. When you count on the roofing contractors here at Rock Solid Exteriors for safe, yet speedy roofing services. We have the proper tools and safety equipment to work on your roof without incident, and we’re insured in case anything should happen. Plus, we can back our work with a warranty, including coverage for workmanship and the roof itself (depending on the type of roof being installed and the roofing material manufacturer).
If we’re stopping by to work on your roof, we ask that you move your vehicles away from the edge of your roof. If you have vehicles in the driveway, for instance, you can move them into the garage or onto the street for the time being. If you’ll need to access your car while we’re working on your roof, it’s best to keep it on the street for convenient access. This will help us to ensure that we don’t damage your property while we’re working on your roof!
In addition, if you have any furniture or other belongings near the overhangs of your roof, you can move or cover these items to ensure that they aren’t damaged while we work.
Working on your roof may also cause art and pictures to fall of the interior walls of your home, so it may be best to remove them before we start working.
If you have pets in the house who dislike loud noises, it may be best to take them to a friend’s house or to a sitter throughout the project. Unfortunately, roof work is rather loud, and your animals may not be too happy with the noise.
The longevity of your roof may vary greatly depending on the material that you’re using on your roof. Most modern shingles last between 15 and 30 years. However, we’ve partnered with Owens Corning® who manufactures premier shingles that can last as long as 50 years. Owens Corning also provides warranties on their products, so we can back both the workmanship and shingles of your roof, should you opt to use Owens Corning shingles.
Roof replacements can take a couple of days, depending on the size of the roof that we’re working on. If you’d like for an estimate on the time it will take for your specific project, you can simply reach out to us.
Repairs can often be completed in a day or two, especially if your roof only needs minor, superficial repairs. For instance, if you need us to replace a handful of shingles, we can be on and off of your roof in a matter of hours. Again, if you’d like for an estimate on the time it will take for your specific project, you can simply reach out to us.
Yes, we install underlayments for our shingle roof projects, since they provide a number of benefits that can improve the performance of your shingle roof. Underlayments provide a small amount of additional insulation for your roof. Plus, underlayments make your roof more water-resistant, especially in windy conditions where water is blown upwards into the fold of your shingles. Underlayments are highly fire resistant as well. In addition, underlayments actually protect your shingles from resin that can seep out of the decking of your roof. Underlayments also keep your roof from displaying an effect called “picture framing” where gaps in the decking material show through the surface of the shingles that are tacked to the decking. Finally, some manufacturers require that roofing contractors install an underlayment for their roofs in order to back the roof with a warranty.
Yes! We offer warranties on our roofing projects including warranties on new installations. Also, as Owens Corning Preferred Contractors, we can offer exclusive warranties that you won’t find anywhere else.
